Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about the Indian Animal Phenome Database (IAPD).

General Information

The Indian Animal Phenome Database (IAPD) is one of the portals of the Indian Biological Data Center (IBDC), designed to facilitate the digitization, management, storage, analysis, and exchange of animal phenotyping data.

It adheres to the FAIR principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Re-usable. Each dataset submitted is assigned a unique and valid IBDC and DOI accession.

IAPD is open to researchers, scientists, and institutions involved in animal phenotyping research. Registration is free for all academic and research purposes.

Data Submission

No. You must first register on the portal. After registration, you can use your login credentials to submit data at any time.

Note: Registration is free and only takes a few minutes.

The data file must be in .csv format, identical to the template downloaded in Step 3.

  • Do not remove the 'Study ID' from the title of the template
  • Any blank fields in the CSV file must be represented as "NA" instead of 0
  • Ensure proper encoding (UTF-8 recommended)

Important: Please do not alter any pre-filled values in the template.

Doing so may cause the upload to fail due to quality control (QC) checks. The system validates the structure and content against the study metadata.

Phenoprojects

A Phenoproject contains brief but comprehensive information about your registered project, including:

  • Project title and description
  • Principal investigator information
  • Study objectives and methodology
  • Associated studies and datasets
  • Publication references

Yes, you can register multiple studies under a single Phenoproject.

This is particularly useful for large research projects with multiple experimental phases or related studies.
